PSG Defeats Marseille in a Shootout to Secure French Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the season-opening trophy on 14 different occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the French league champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side fired two times late to seize a surprise lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the dying seconds to send the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing penalty victory.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the past thirteen seasons.
